A martini is definitely a drink I equate with sophistication, so when I moved to Austin and saw a Mexican Martini on many Tex-Mex menus I became a tad curious. Then, when my sister {the sister that only drinks alcoholic beverages on special occasions} called me and raved about a Mexican Martini she had not once, but twice here in Austin, I had to see what the fuss was about. I absolutely love anything with citrus, so when my research turned up orange liqueur and limes, I knew I would like it. After a few test runs in the kitchen and putting my shaker to work, I've come up with a version that is worthy of a second round while eating grilled tacos with friends on a breezy Texan evening.

- 4 oz tequila 3 oz orange liqueur --I used Patrón Citrónge
- 4 oz sweet and sour mix
- 2 oz fresh lime juice
- 4 oz fresh squeezed or not-from-concentrate orange juice
- 2 splashes Sprite or sparkling water
- 4 olives
Pour all ingredients into a large cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a large cocktail or martini glass with an optional salt rim. Add two olives on a spear, and serve. Most places here in Texas serve it with a margarita-like salted rim. I am personally more of a purest and love this martini without the salted rim.
